Initial Testing with a Red-Tailed Hawk - (8/15/17)

A red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) being sedated by expert veterinarians from the UMN Raptor Center before completing non-invasive auditory tests.

The pilot testing is producing picture-perfect auditory brainstem responses (ABR)!

The hawk is waking up after testing is complete.

M.E.A.R.L. Attenuation Testing - (9/21/17)

The Mobile Eagle Auditory Research Laboratory (MEARL) is reassembled in CATSS for noise attenuation testing.

Setting up of MEARL and testing equipment inside of MSP Booth 1.

MEARL assembly nearly complete. Testing showed nearly 30 dB of attenuation using pink noise presented simultaneously from all 48 speakers in the booth.

Raptor Release Day (UMN Raptor Center) - (9/23/17)

CATSS Director Peggy Nelson releasing a Cooper's hawk back into the wild.

The final raptor of the week is done!

December Follow-Up: Day 1 - (12/14/17)

The first bald eagle for ABR and ASSR testing; a follow-up to the initial testing with more complex stimuli, such as amplitude/frequency modulation and frequency sweeps.

The Discovery Channel was filming our research all day!

A red-tailed hawk waking up after testing.

December Follow-Up: Day 2 - (12/15/17)

The final bald eagle (for 2017 at least...) has finished!
