Spring Research Day 2023

Center for Applied Translational Sensory Sciences (CATSS) and Center for Cognitive Sciences presents Spring Research Day 2023! This is an annual, university-wide symposium that showcases student research. This year, our theme is “Science of Sensory Disability: Building Understanding and Creating Equitable Solutions”. This event is open to any undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty whose interests align with the science of sensory disability.

Students whose research involves understanding the senses, sensory loss, or the human experience of sensory loss are encouraged to submit an abstract for a poster or oral presentation.

Submissions will be accepted through 11:59 pm on Friday, March 17th. Decisions will be communicated Friday March 24th.

*** Feel free to present developing research ideas or recycle previously presented posters! Initial abstract submissions may also include preliminary findings and can be amended until April 7th. We want to get diverse research projects from a wide range of departments and programs to participate. We encourage interdisciplinary work! ***

The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Laurie King, PhD, PT, MCR, Professor of Neurology, at the Oregon Health and Science University. Dr. King’s lab studies balance and gait deficits in people with neurological disorders and wearable sensors to detect deficits. Intro & Overview of fNIRS & NIRx

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a non-invasive neuroimaging technique which uses light to measure blood flow from the cortex; it has been rapidly gaining popularity in recent years, with publications coming out in nearly every application within the cognitive neurosciences. The presentation will include a demonstration and hands-on session for interacting with the technology given by a technical expert from NIRx Medical Technologies. (Lunch is included.)
